About me

I’m old enough to have begged for a Kodak Instamatic, remember the blue flash of the flashcubes, and the excitement of waiting to see what the pictures would look like when they were developed. I grew up chasing images with my Dad, and watching him work in his darkroom. Lunch hours at my first job were often spent outside with my first SLR looking for images, and wondering how to make them better.

I’m a musician by day, and my visual art, photography in particular, both informs that part of my life and draws from it. I grew up in the corridor between Boston and Cape Cod, and moved to Finland after college to continue my musical studies. I’ve stayed here to raise a family, and photography has become an important way for me to understand my adopted home. While a lot of my images here are from this part of the world, you’ll also find images from my travels. Lately I’ve become interested in exploring intentional camera movement, and find the challenge and freedom it brings a welcome addition to my repertoire. And in the same way as I’ve used types of improvisation with my students to teach traditional classical music techniques, I find that ICM helps to develop the way I build more traditional images.

I hope you enjoy looking through my images. And feel free to contact me, I’d love to hear from you.
